Ep 24: Star Wars - Shadows of the Empire - Chocolate Wampas!

We're moving onto a new operating system in this episode as we eye a whole new era of nostalgia. This time we're talking all about the N64 Star Wars classic 1996 Shadows of the Empire! The boys played this game like crazy back in the 90s and find it a treat to revisit. Hopefully you got a chance to do the same!
After the intros they get into the history of game (4:00), then the gameplay (21:30). Then of course they play a delicious round of "What's The Beer? What's The Song?" (32:30), and introduce a new segment: "What Else We Playing?" (39:30). They end things talking about next month's game and other outro stuff (43:30).

Ep 23: Grim Fandango - Palimpsest Of Indiana Jones Refs

We're back after a month off to bring you all one of the highest-acclaimed LucasArts games ever: Grim Fandango. Somehow this slipped through our fingers in our youth, so we were happy to give it a shot and it did not disappoint! Friend of the podcast, Nick Bontrager joins the boys as Grim is one of his all-time favorites. Thanks again for joining us, man!
After some intro talk, we get into the making-of Grim Fandango at 9:30 in, then dive deeper into the gameplay at 31:30. Of course, we throw in a few rounds of "What's The Beer? Ep 21: Loom - But Why Swans Again?

It's LOOOOOM!!!! Yeah, it's a SCUMM game, but it's even weirder than any of the other ones. Don't like verbs? How about playing tunes with a distaff instead?? That's right, it's super weird. That being said, we had a blast diving into another LucasArts classic. Hopefully you did to. Enjoy!

Ep 20: Tacoma - The Future Is Polygonal

This month we're bringing you another new game!!! I know...it's weird. But we're not apologizing for it, b/c we really enjoyed this little ditty. Strap on your space suit and hold your holographic cat close, we're going to space!
After some quick intros, we get into the development and history of the game at about 2 min in which quickly bleeds into the gameplay for the next 30 min or so (we touch on the AR system specifically around the 30 min mark). Ep 19: Everything - We Swear We're Not High

Have you ever played a game you weren't sure was a game? Where there weren't any rules and no story to follow? In fact, it almost seemed more true and real than anything in your life had ever been up to that point?
Yeah. That's this game.
Or at least it comes close to that a few times. Anyway, we really enjoyed Everything, and we highly suggest you give it a play before you jump into this episode. That being said...there aren't really any spoilers sooo....have at it!
In this month's episode we're take a weird turn at the beginning and start off with the gameplay. I coaxed my wife into playing the game at the 27:30 mark, and at about 30:00 we FINALLY start talking about the making-of the game. We get into the concept of video games as art at 35:30 and even tie in some zen philosophy 38:40. Then at 42:30 we discuss what this really was...a video game? A friend? Our alternate realities?!?! Then Chuck visits at 44:15, we play some WTBWTS at 47:15, and we end things up talking about next month's game, some FOLMF news, as well as a BIG PODCAST ANNOUNCEMENT at the 52:45 mark. Enjoy!

Ep 18: Gone Home - Steggy? …Steggy

Another game from this decade! Weird, right? I promise we'll get back to vintage games at some point, but for now we're playing the instant classic, Gone Home. Think Firewatch stuck in a mansion. Pretty fun, right? Well it was! We had a great time playing it, and hope you did too.
This episode is pretty spoiler-heavy, and the game is pretty short, so go ahead and play it before you listen too far into the episode. Hope you enjoy it, and enjoy the pod too!
After a quick introduction, we start talking about the history around 3:40, then we get into the gameplay (and there's a lot of overlap there) around the 19-minute mark.
