On today's show, Jason and Ben sit down and chat all about the latest Netflix sensation: Stranger Things. The Duffer Brothers' creation has caught our attention and the connections to retro gaming are plentiful. We chat about everything from the scientific evidence of the 5th dimension, to what really happened to Barb. It gets a little misty in this episode.

Ep 6: Dark Forces - Just the Coolest Thing Ever

More Star Wars!!! I know. You’re stoked. Settle down. Today we’re talking about the 1995 LucasArts classic: Dark Forces. This game, more than any other, is just like walking through the Star Wars universe. We had a good time.
Okay, here’s the rundown: After a quick intro, we get into the history of the game around 2:45 then we finally get around to talking gameplay at about 18:00. Finally at 33:45 we play a deliciously alluring game of “What’s the Beer? What’s the song?” and we finish things out at 40:15 when we talk about next month’s game. Should be a great one!
We’re excited to play the many sequels to Dark Forces in the future, but for now, we’re leaving the Star Wars universe for a bit. Hope you enjoy the podcast!

Between Two Chucks: A Conversation with Corrigan Vaughan

During our Secret of Monkey Island episode with Corrigan Vaughan, we ended up having a great conversation about some of the commentary and impact that video games have (specifically Monkey Island, but we expound outside of LA games as well), and the widespread stereotyping of characters and people groups within them.
We do touch briefly on the fact that LucasArts often turns those stereotypes on their heads, being a satirical, highly-intelligent staff of creatives, but that doesn't mean they're perfect. Give it a quick listen and let us know your thoughts. If nothing else, hopefully it sparks a conversation, or at least makes you think about characters and their depictions in gaming.

Ep 5: The Secret of Monkey Island - The Game That Created Me

Our most anticipated game finally hits the wifi waves today: The Secret of Monkey Island. Debuting in 1990, this game still holds up as one of the greatest ever. We had a blast covering it this month and hopefully you got a chance to play it too. Here's the rundown...
After a quick intro, we talk about how TSOMI got made at about 6:45, then at 16:20 we set up the game and at the 18:00 minute mark we're joined by the incoRrigible Corrigan Vaughan to chat about how it went actually playing the game. After talking puzzles, hilarities, and frustrating soup recipes, we play a lovely game of "What's the Beer? What's the Song?" at 43:00, then Jason and I bid farewell to CoRri and end things by talking about next month's game at 52:00.

Ep 4: Star Wars: Rebel Assault I & II - Shift +

Hey gamers! Thanks for listening. Today we're talking all about two of our long time LucasArts favorites, Star Wars: Rebel Assault I & II. Although after replaying them, we're not exactly sure why they've been our favorites for 20+ years... on to the show!
We start out with some of the history of the games, how they got made, that kind of thing. Then at the 8:30 mark we talk a little bit about the setup and characters of both games. After that, at 14:15, we're joined by the by the ebullient Nick Gates to talk gameplay, and then he joins us for another classic rendition of "What's The Beer? What's The Song?" at 44:45. (Spoiler alert: Jason's beer is terrible.) Finally, we say farewell to Nicholas and finish things up talking about next month's game at 53:00.
What is next month's game? It's one of the most classic LucasArts games of all time: The Secret of Monkey Island. Just a great game, and holds up better than any game we've played so far. Hopefully you'll agree.

Hey there! On this episode of MOLMF, Jason and Ben talk all about the classic 1993 LucasArts game: Zombies Ate My Neighbors. We dive into the history and making of ZAMN at 6:15, and then invite a long-time friend of ours, Michael Conrad II, on to chat gameplay at 16:40. We play a rousing game of “What’s He Saying?” with Mike at 32:40, and after we say farewell to Mike, we play a little “What’s the Beer? What’s the Song?” at about 38:15. Finally, we pick next month’s game at 46:00.

Ep 2: Day Of The Tentacle - Bernard Gets Stuff Done

Today Jason and Ben talk about the beloved 1993 LucasArts classic video game, Day Of The Tentacle. It’s the sequel to Maniac Mansion—kind of like this is the sequel to our Maniac Mansion episode.
Today we chat about the game and why it holds a special place in our hearts, then around 2:40 we start digging into the history of the game. After that, we get into the actual gameplay of DOTT at 19:40, and of course we play some “What’s The Beer? What’s The Song?” right around 34:00, and then at about 43:20 we pick our next game.

Hello and welcome to our first episode! Thanks for downloading this little gem. In today's episode we talk about the first LucasArts game built with their innovative SCUMM engine. Pretty revolutionary stuff. We start off with some history, then around 21:40 we get into the set up and gameplay of Maniac Mansion. Then set up our next game around 40:30, followed by a rousing discussion of which games we're most excited/anxious about playing at around 41:45. Then the real fun begins at 45:20 when we chat about our good friend, Chuck The Plant, and at 48:20 we cover What's the Beer? What's the Song? (We apologize about the poor audio, but if you can get through it, I promise our next episode sounds much better.)
